Monarch Butterfly

We have had a monarch butterfly chrysalis in our classroom for 2 weeks and we have been waiting for it to come out.  It came out in the weekend and we discovered it in our classroom on Monday.  It was raining outside so we let it sit on our pea plant by the window so it could get warm.  It started to flutter away and the rain had stopped so we decided it was time to let it go.  It rested on the rose plant outside in our garden then it flew away.

We were going to name it but we couldn't agree on one.  Some of the suggestions were Buttery, Fluttery, Monarch, Jack and Steve.  What do you think?
Time for a rest

We hope it's going to visit us one day!!

Corn flour gloop

Fridays are our science experiment days.  This Friday we had to guess what we were going to do.  Our teacher told us that it was messy but fun.  We thought we might be working with clay or sand  or mud.  We went outside and she showed us some white powder, it felt smooth and it didn't have any smell.  She told us that it was corn flour.  She then poured some water in it and told us to mix it in and make it into a ball.  Well, the ball wouldn't stay in shape!  It seemed to 'melt' in our hands.  It was so much fun and we didn't want to stop.

Inside our classroom

If you visit our classroom, this is what you will see on our walls.
We work very hard and the work on the wall help to remind us of what we have learned.

Art Work in Room 5

In Room 5, we really enjoy doing art.  There's crazy hair, a field of daffodils and the cows.

I wonder what we will do next!!

Collaborative Writing- Working Together

Thinking in someone else's shoes

Here we had to write as a group where we all started a story then passed it to someone else in our group who had to continue with our story.  The writing was mostly funny and had changed to what the first person was thinking.  It was hard to think of what the person before us were thinking about but it was fun.

Vector-Keeping Safe near Electricity

We were lucky to have an electricity safety message lesson by Vector.  We learned how to keep safe around electricity and now know how to look out for dangers.
Reality wore a safety hat that is worn by the linesman working with live wires.

Making Butter

From Farm to the Table

We have been learning about the dairy farms in New Zealand and the process of making butter from milk.  We used cream because it has the most fat to make butter.

We took turns to shake the jar of cream.
The buttermilk separated from the butter.
We made butter!!
It tasted yum on the crackers.

Now we know how butter is made.
