Matariki Celebration

Matariki is the Maori name for the group of 7 stars. It rises in mid-winter and is the start of the Maori new year. This year to celebrate Matariki, we made and flew kites, we practised using poi and we made matariki stars and lanterns.

Flying the kite (manu tukutuku) was one of our favourite activities.
