Ipad in Our Class

We can use laptops and tablets and now we are learning to use Ipads.  Here we are doing a maths activity where we have to copy, duplicate and transfer pictures or images to help solve our problems.  We found this really easy and now we are ready for the next challenge!!

Our Art Challenge -Weaving

Our challenge for the art has been to draw a Samoan or Tongan pattern, colour it and then weave through it.  The weaving has been a challenge as we have to remember to go under then over through the slits.  We have been helping each other to create our patterns.

Story Telling

We have been using the pictures from multi lingual books to make up stories as part of our oral language.  Our stories have characters, setting, problems and solutions with more detail now.

Skipping Demonstration

There are so many different ways of skipping and we have made up some new ones to challenge ourselves.  We showed off our skills to the junior syndicate on Friday.

We are practising really hard for our skipping demonstration at the end of the term.

The Finished Leis

We have finally finished our leis and they look incredible.  We had to work so carefully with the crepe paper and the needle but with teamwork, we made something we are very proud to wear.

Can you see all the different patterns we tried to create?

How to Float a Paperclip

What would happen if you try to float a paperclip in the water? It would sink of course but we managed to float it.

How did we do it?

Well, we needed a paperclip, a piece of tissue and a pencil.
We floated the tissue on the water then we very carefully placed the paperclip on it.  We got a pencil (the back end) and gently pushed the tissue paper so it sank, leaving the paperclip floating.  Magical!!

More on Samoa andTonga

We have been very lucky because some of us have been bringing lots of clothing from Samoa and Tonga to share with others.  The ones who do not have Samoan or Tongan clothing got a chance to wear them and see what they looked like in these clothes.  It is an awesome why to show our cultures to others in the class.

Telling Stories

As part of our oral language, we decided to make up stories using books in other languages and share it with the class. We worked in groups of 4 and had to think of our characters, setting, problems and solutions.

There were stories about monsters, grandma's and granddaughters and about going to the marae.

World Milk Day

Thursday was the World Milk Day and we are Milk in School school so we were lucky to have our milk to drink.

Milk provides us with calcium which keeps our bone and teeth strong and it is a yummy drink too.
