Red means Stop

Orange means Slow down

Green mean Go

We used red, orange and green paper to make our traffic lights.  We know what these colours on the traffic lights mean.

We worked in pairs to make our traffic lights.

We also read a poem about the traffic lights.

The Fly Spray

We were given a challenging task of making a big fly spray can for the our show  at Te Oro!!

Acrostic Poems

Our focus has been pests and as part of that we have been writing about pests too.  We wrote some acrostic poems about flies and mosquitoes.  Acrostic poems are poems where a word in used to write the poem, here we had chosen 'Flies' and 'Mosquitoes'.

The wasp art work was by Ariel and had bubble wrap on top, like the nest.

Display for Te Oro

As part of our Te Oro display, we did research on pests that can be found in our community such as cockroaches, snails, slugs, rats, wasps.  We collected the information on their diet, their description, habitats, how to get rid of them and how to prevent them. We then displayed our findings in inform of reports and drew pictures of these pests to go with our displays.

The Completed Fly Swat Art

It was fun making fly swat art and to make it more interesting, we used black ink and our fingers to print some squashed flies.

Flower Art

Georgia O'Keeffe is an American artist and we have been looking at her art.  We enjoyed her paintings of enlarged flowers so we decided to create some of our own.

It's Spring

In Room 5, we have been busy learning about signs of spring.  We went for a hikoi around the school to find signs of spring.  We learned that in spring birds make nests and sing, there are baby animals around, the days are getting warmer and longer, the daffodils come out, the plants start to grow and there are blossoms on trees.

In Room 5, we really enjoy doing art.  There's crazy hair, a field of daffodils and the cows.

Our Author- Eric Carle

We have been learning about author/illustrator Eric Carle. 

He has written and illustrated some very well known stories like The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Busy Spider, The Mixed Up Chameleon, The Bad-Tempered Ladybird and many others.

The Very Busy Spider

The very busy spider made her web, she didn't make a sound but kept working hard.  All the other animals wanted to play but she only wanted to catch a fly and she did.

We made the web and caught a few 'flies' too.

We made a book cover for The Bad-Tempered Ladybird using some of Eric Carle's painting techniques.  This will be displayed in the library.

We really enjoyed reading his books and wrote a big book based on his story, 

The Mixed-Up Chameleon.

Sewing

Needle in, needle out, over, under and we have made a stitch.  

We are learning to stitch and this week we have learned to do knots, thread the needle and make straight stitches across the hessian so we can make a border.  It will take us a few weeks of hard work and patience before we can finish!
