Making Different Types of Graphs

This week we are learning to make different types of graphs in Statistics.  We decided to collect some data and use it to display in form of a graph.

We looked at the 2 questions:
- Do you like milkshake?
-Which flavour of milkshake do you like?

We had a choice of 5 flavours: lime, vanilla, strawberry, banana and chocolate.

We found out that 14 of us liked milkshakes while 6 of us don't.
We also found out that the favourite flavour was chocolate while nobody liked lime and vanilla flavours.

Measurement in Maths

We had a challenging tasks of measuring different things with our partner.  It was hard to measure the doorway because our hands moved when we tried to compare with the desks. We decided it would be much easier to measure if we all had the same thing to measure with, like a ruler!!

Maths Problem- Takeaways

Our WALT for this week is to solve word problems in different ways.

Here we started counting back from the biggest number to solve our problem.

To solve this problem, we came up with 3 different strategies:

Counting back from the largest number
or
Taking away the tens then adding back the ones
or
Counting back in tens.

Graphs

We made graphs to show our favourite pizzas.  While most of us like cheese pizza, 3 people in our class don't like pizzas at all!!

We also made a graph to show our favourite fruit.  The most favourite fruit in our class is watermelon.

Exploring Patterns with Maths

Maths is so much fun, especially when we get to 'play'!  We have been learning about Algebra- making patterns, continuing others patterns and talking about them.  We have used ourselves eg long hair/short hair, girl/boy, shorts/long pants.  We have also used shapes, other types of materials, colours and number patterns too.

Maths Challenge

We have been learning to solve maths word problems.  First, we worked as a class then in pairs and today we were ready to work by ourselves.  We then got back in pairs to share our ideas and then we worked as a class.

We are getting more confident in talking about our understanding and are enjoying our maths lessons.

Maths Investigation

We were looking at different ways of measuring the length of our field.  We tried to run and count but realised that our steps were not equal.  We also thought that we could measure the length by laying down on the field but then we didn't have enough people and we were all of different heights!!

After trying lots of different ways, we came to the conclusion that whatever we use to measure, has to be the same size everytime so we decided to use our steps.  Our field is very long!!!

Let's Go Shopping

We are learning about money so we decided to go shopping to see what we could buy from the play shop.
The shopkeepers had to give us the correct change and we had to make sure that we knew how much change we should get back.
There were so many choices, from ice-cream to strawberries to hamburgers.  We had to be very wise with our choices so we could get what we wanted.  Lots of us spent our money on junk food!!!!
